Possible Causes
Short between pilot and ground in cable, Failed diode in vehicle inlet, Water ingress in connector causing pilot short, Faulty pilot sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before inspecting the connector or cable.
- Test with another vehicle: If possible, connect the Zencar charger to a different EV. If E12 only occurs with one vehicle, the issue may be in that vehicle's inlet.
- Inspect connector for moisture: Look for condensation or water inside the J1772/Type 2 connector. Dry thoroughly and use contact cleaner if needed.
- Check cable for damage: Examine the cable for cuts or crushing that could short the pilot conductor to ground. Replace the output charging cable assembly if damage is found.
- Inspect pilot wiring on board: With power OFF, verify the pilot wire is not pinched or contacting the chassis inside the charger.
- If E12 persists with multiple vehicles: The pilot sensing circuit on the main control PCB may be defective and require replacement.
