Possible Causes
Door left open or not sealing, Recent large load of warm food, Power outage or recent defrost, Refrigerant leak or weak compressor, Evaporator fan not running
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal electrical work is required for basic checks. If you proceed to internal components, unplug the freezer first.
- Check door closure: Ensure the door is fully closed and the gasket is not obstructed by food packages or ice.
- Inspect door gasket: Run your hand around the seal to feel for cold air leaks. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and dry.
- Consider recent events: If you recently loaded a lot of warm food or had a power cut, the alarm may be normal. Press the alarm reset button (if available) and allow 12–24 hours for temperature to recover.
- Check internal airflow: Make sure vents inside the freezer are not blocked by food. Air must circulate freely.
- Listen for compressor and fan: You should hear the compressor and, on no-frost models, the evaporator fan. If either is silent for long periods while the interior is warm, further diagnosis of those components is needed.
- Monitor temperature: Use a freezer thermometer to verify actual temperature. If it does not drop below –18°C after 24 hours with the door closed, there may be a sealed system or control fault requiring a technician.
If the alarm persists despite good sealing and normal loading, professional diagnosis of the cooling system is recommended.
