Possible Causes

Automatic defrost cycle in progress, Control software stuck in defrost mode, Defrost sensor misreading temperature, Main PCB logic fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: In many Balay no-frost freezers, a dF indication simply means a defrost cycle is active and is not a fault.

  • Wait and observe: Allow 30–60 minutes. During normal defrost, the compressor and fan stop, and dF may be shown. The unit should resume cooling automatically.
  • Check temperature: Use a thermometer to ensure the freezer does not warm above –9°C during defrost. A slight rise is normal.
  • Power reset: If dF remains for several hours and cooling does not resume, unplug the freezer for 10 minutes, then reconnect.
  • Monitor operation: If the unit repeatedly stays in dF and does not cool, the defrost sensor or control board may be faulty. Follow the steps for defrost sensor (E3) and defrost heater (E4) diagnosis.

If you are unsure whether dF is normal behavior for your specific Balay model, consult the user manual or contact Balay support.
