Possible Causes

Evaporator fan motor tachometer failure, Broken feedback wire, Obstruction causing fan stall, Faulty fan driver on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the fan or wiring.

  • Check for obstructions: Remove drawers and inspect the rear panel area for ice or packaging blocking the fan.
  • Defrost if iced: If ice is present around the fan, perform a full manual defrost (12–24 hours unplugged) and then test again.
  • Access fan assembly: Remove the inner rear panel to expose the fan. Spin the blades by hand to ensure they move freely.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the fan connector and wires for damage, especially the thin tachometer wire (often a third wire on DC fans).
  • Replace fan motor: If the fan does not run or F3 persists, install a new Balay evaporator fan motor with tachometer.

If a new fan does not resolve the error, the main control board may not be reading the tach signal correctly and should be checked by a technician.
