Possible Causes
Defective defrost relay on PCB, Shorted defrost heater, Wiring short to ground, PCB sensing circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Defrost circuits are mains powered. Unplug the freezer before testing.
- Inspect for ice buildup: If the evaporator area is heavily iced, the defrost system is not working correctly.
- Test heater and wiring: Follow the steps under E4 to test heater resistance and check for shorts to ground.
- Check PCB connections: Ensure the defrost heater wires are firmly connected to the main board and not burnt.
- Board diagnosis: If the heater and wiring are good but F4 persists, the defrost relay or control circuit on the PCB is likely faulty. Replacement of the Balay main control board is usually required.
Because of the risk of electric shock, defrost circuit diagnosis beyond basic visual checks should be done by a professional.
