Possible Causes
Spilled liquids absorbed into liners or insulation, Mold growth in drain system, Poor air circulation, Long-term power outage with spoiled food
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before deep cleaning. Use non-abrasive cleaners only.
- Thorough cleaning: Empty the freezer completely. Wash all interior surfaces with a solution of baking soda and warm water. Rinse and dry.
- Clean drain system: Flush the defrost drain and clean the drip tray as described in the leak fault.
- Deodorize: Place open containers of baking soda or activated charcoal inside and leave the freezer running for several days.
- Check door gasket: Clean the gasket folds where residue can accumulate.
If odors persist, they may have penetrated the insulation, which is difficult to remedy and may require panel replacement or, in severe cases, appliance replacement.
