Possible Causes
Burnt defrost heater, Failed defrost thermostat or sensor, Faulty defrost control on PCB, Broken wiring in defrost circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing internal panels. Water from defrosting can make floors slippery.
- Manual defrost: Empty the freezer, unplug it, and leave the door open for 12–24 hours to melt all ice. Protect the floor with towels.
- Check operation after defrost: Plug back in and monitor. If the problem recurs within days and frost builds up again, the automatic defrost system is faulty.
- Access defrost components: Remove the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator, defrost heater, and thermostat/sensor.
- Test heater and thermostat: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the Balay defrost heater and defrost thermostat. Replace any open components.
If heater and thermostat are good, the main control board may not be initiating defrost and should be checked by a technician.
