Possible Causes
Faulty cabinet temperature sensor, Sticking mechanical thermostat (on older models), Loose sensor probe, Main control board logic issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing sensors or thermostat controls.
- Check settings: Ensure the temperature is set correctly and that SuperFreeze is not left on permanently.
- Inspect sensor location: Make sure the cabinet sensor is not touching the evaporator or covered by food packaging, which can cause false readings.
- Test sensor or thermostat: For electronic models, follow the NTC sensor tests (see E2). For mechanical thermostats, listen for a click when turning the dial from warm to cold; no click may indicate failure.
- Replace faulty part: Install a new Balay cabinet NTC sensor or Balay mechanical thermostat as appropriate for your model.
If fluctuations persist after replacing the sensor/thermostat, the main control board may be defective and should be evaluated by a technician.
