Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, ice obstruction around fan blades, wiring harness damage to fan, faulty main control board fan driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the fan or evaporator area.

Steps:

  • Check for airflow: With the door closed for several minutes and the unit running, open the door and listen for the evaporator fan. If silent and F6 is displayed, proceed.
  • Access fan: Remove baskets and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Inspect for ice: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. If present, defrost the area completely with the unit unplugged and towels in place. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan blades by hand. If stiff or seized, replace the evaporator fan motor.
  • Electrical test: With the fan disconnected and the unit unplugged, measure fan motor resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also inspect the connector and wiring for damage.
  • Control board: If the fan motor tests good and receives no voltage during operation (technician test), the main control board may be defective.
