Possible Causes
Incorrect defrost sensor value (out of calibration), wrong replacement thermistor installed, sensor not properly attached to evaporator, main control board firmware issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near the evaporator or wiring.
Steps:
- Verify recent repairs: If a thermistor was recently replaced, confirm that a genuine Fisher & Paykel part with the correct rating was installed.
- Check sensor mounting: Ensure the defrost/evaporator thermistor is firmly clipped to the evaporator tubing in the correct location, not hanging loose in the air.
- Inspect wiring: Look for spliced wires or non-standard connectors that may add resistance and affect readings. Restore proper connections where possible.
- Reset control: After correcting any issues, unplug the freezer for 10 minutes to reset the control. If F8 returns, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and require replacement.
