Possible Causes
Door left open or not sealing, heavy frost blocking airflow, failed evaporator fan, compressor or start device failure, refrigerant leak or sealed system issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing panels. Do not puncture any refrigerant lines.
Steps:
- Check door seal: Inspect the Fisher & Paykel freezer door gasket for gaps, tears, or debris. Clean the gasket and cabinet mating surface. Adjust door hinges if misaligned.
- Look for frost: Excessive frost on the evaporator cover or interior walls indicates a defrost or door seal problem. Defrost the unit fully and correct the underlying cause.
- Verify fan operation: Listen for the evaporator fan when the door switch is held closed. If silent, test and replace the evaporator fan motor if faulty.
- Compressor check: Ensure the compressor is running and warm to the touch (but not extremely hot). If it is not running or only clicks, see compressor/start device diagnostics.
- Sealed system: If the compressor runs continuously but only a small part of the evaporator frosts, there may be a refrigerant issue. This requires a licensed refrigeration technician.
