Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain tube, ice blocking drain trough under evaporator, cracked drain tube, drain pan misaligned or overfilled due to high humidity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before defrosting or accessing the drain system.
Steps:
- Locate leak: Check if water appears at the front (door area) or rear (under compressor). Front leaks may also be from door gasket condensation.
- Access evaporator drain: Remove interior rear panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough. Look for ice blocking the drain hole.
- Clear drain: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan near the compressor.
- Inspect drain tube: From the rear, locate the drain tube leading to the pan. Ensure it is not kinked or disconnected. Replace the defrost drain tube if cracked.
- Check drain pan: Ensure the drain pan is correctly positioned under the tube and not cracked.
