Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coils, failed condenser fan motor, door gasket leaks, early-stage refrigerant leak or restriction in capillary tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before cleaning or accessing the compressor compartment.
Steps:
- Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel and vacuum dust from the condenser coils and surrounding area. Clean at least once a year.
- Check condenser fan: With power briefly restored, verify the condenser fan runs whenever the compressor runs. Replace the condenser fan motor if it does not start or is noisy.
- Inspect door gasket: Close a sheet of paper in the door at several points. If it pulls out easily, the gasket may be leaking. Replace the door gasket if warped or torn.
- Evaporator frost pattern: If accessible, remove the interior rear panel and inspect the evaporator. A full, even frost pattern is normal; frost only on a small section suggests a sealed system issue requiring a technician.
