Possible Causes
Defective cabinet NTC temperature sensor, Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded sensor connector at control board, Failed main control board sensor input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer from the wall outlet before removing any panels or touching wiring. Use insulated tools and avoid working on a wet floor.
- Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. If E1 returns after a few minutes, continue with checks.
- Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Galanz uprights, the cabinet NTC sensor is behind the inner liner near the evaporator cover or in a small plastic housing on the rear wall. Remove the interior shelves and the plastic evaporator cover if needed.
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for a small probe with two wires going to it. Check for cuts, pinched wires, ice damage, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the sensor (if you have a multimeter): Disconnect the sensor from the harness. Measure resistance at room temperature (around 25°C/77°F). A typical NTC will read between 5–20 kΩ. If it reads open (OL) or 0 Ω, the sensor is bad.
- Replace the sensor: If damaged or out of spec, order a compatible Galanz cabinet temperature sensor (NTC). Route the new sensor along the original path, avoiding sharp edges, and secure it with clips or tape. Reconnect to the harness.
- Check the control board: If a known-good sensor still gives E1, inspect the main control board (usually behind a rear or top access panel) for burnt spots or loose connectors. Reseat the sensor plug on the board. If damage is visible or E1 persists, the board may need replacement.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall covers and shelves, restore power, and monitor for 20–30 minutes to confirm the error is cleared.
