Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor wire damaged by ice buildup, Loose or corroded connector at evaporator, Faulty main control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing interior panels. Wear cut-resistant gloves; evaporator fins are sharp.
- Access the evaporator area: Empty the freezer section. Remove the rear interior panel/evaporator cover (usually held by Phillips screws). Carefully pull the panel forward to expose the evaporator coil and wiring.
- Identify the evaporator sensor: Look for a small probe clipped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a plastic clip, with two thin wires leading to a connector.
- Check for ice damage: If the sensor is encased in heavy ice, allow it to thaw with the unit unplugged and doors open. Do not chip ice with sharp tools; use warm towels or a fan.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Look for broken insulation, pulled wires, or corrosion. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the sensor: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to typical NTC values (e.g., higher resistance when cold, lower when warm). If it reads open or shorted, replace it.
- Replace the sensor: Install a new Galanz evaporator temperature sensor (NTC). Clip it securely to the same tube location for accurate readings. Route wires away from moving fan blades.
- Control board check: If a new sensor does not clear E2, inspect and reseat the sensor connector on the main control board. If the board shows burn marks or the error persists, the board may require replacement.
- Reassemble: Refit the evaporator cover, ensuring the fan wiring is not pinched. Restore power and monitor operation for at least one full cooling cycle.
