Possible Causes

Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from its mounting location, Damaged sensor harness near control panel, Faulty main control board sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or top cover.

  • Locate ambient sensor: On many Galanz freezers, the ambient sensor is near the front control panel or behind a small vent on the cabinet front/top. Remove the control panel cover or top trim as needed.
  • Inspect sensor and wiring: Look for a small probe or plastic-encased sensor with two wires. Ensure it is not hanging loose inside the cabinet and that its tip is exposed to room air, not touching cold metal.
  • Check connections: Reseat the sensor connector at the control board. Look for corrosion or bent pins.
  • Test the sensor: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values (often 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). If it reads open or shorted, replace it.
  • Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Galanz ambient temperature sensor (NTC). Mount it in the original location so it senses room air correctly.
  • Control board check: If a known-good sensor does not clear E5, the main control board may have a failed sensor input. Inspect for damage and replace the main control board if necessary.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the control panel, restore power, and verify that the display responds to temperature changes over several hours.
