Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty main control board fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the fan. Fan blades and metal fins can be sharp.
- Access evaporator fan: Remove interior shelves and the rear panel inside the freezer to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Check for ice blockage: Look for heavy frost or ice around the fan. If present, allow the unit to defrost fully with doors open and towels to catch water. Do not pry ice off the blades.
- Spin the fan by hand: With power still off, gently spin the fan blade. It should move freely without grinding. If it is seized or very stiff, the motor is likely bad.
- Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor wires and connector for damage or loose fit. Reseat the connector.
- Test the fan motor: If you have a multimeter, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace the fan motor: Remove the fan blade (pull straight off) and unmount the motor from its bracket. Install a new Galanz evaporator fan motor, transfer the blade, and reconnect wiring. Ensure the blade does not rub on any surfaces.
- Control board check: If a new motor does not run and E8 persists, the main control board may not be supplying power. Inspect the board and consider replacement if no other wiring faults are found.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the rear panel, restore power, and confirm the fan runs after the compressor starts (usually within a few minutes).
