Possible Causes
Defective door switch, Misaligned door magnet or reed sensor, Broken switch wiring in cabinet, Faulty main control board door input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing any trim or switch assemblies.
- Locate the door switch/sensor: On upright models, the switch is usually in the door frame near the top or side. On chest freezers, a lid switch may be under the top trim.
- Inspect the switch: Press the switch plunger by hand. It should click distinctly. If it feels loose, sticks, or does not click, it may be faulty.
- Check alignment (magnetic sensors): If your model uses a magnetic reed sensor, ensure the door magnet is still in place and lines up with the sensor when the door is closed.
- Test continuity: Disconnect the switch and test with a multimeter. It should change from open to closed when pressed. If it does not, replace it.
- Replace the switch: Install a new Galanz door switch / door sensor. Transfer any wiring connectors one by one to avoid miswiring. Ensure the switch is firmly seated and the door fully depresses it when closed.
- Inspect wiring and board: If the switch tests good, check the harness back to the control board for breaks. Reseat the connector at the board. If E9 persists, the main control board may be at fault.
- Reassemble and test: Refit any trim, restore power, and verify that interior lights and alarms behave correctly when opening and closing the door.
