Possible Causes
Refrigerant leak in evaporator or condenser, Restricted capillary tube, Internally failed compressor, Non-condensable gases in system
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system yourself. Refrigerant handling requires specialized tools and certification.
- Basic checks first: Ensure condenser coils are clean and that the condenser fan (if equipped) is running. Verify the door gasket seals properly.
- Observe frost pattern: If you can safely remove the interior rear panel, check the evaporator. No frost at all or a tiny patch of frost in one corner while the compressor runs continuously strongly suggests a sealed system issue.
- Do not puncture lines: Never drill, cut, or puncture any copper or aluminum tubing. This can release refrigerant and permanently damage the unit.
- Call a technician: Sealed system repairs (leak detection, recharging, compressor replacement) must be performed by a licensed refrigeration technician. In many cases, replacement of the freezer may be more economical than major sealed system work.
