Possible Causes
Failing compressor, Condenser fan blade hitting debris, Loose compressor mounting springs, Vibrating copper tubing touching cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before reaching into the compressor compartment. Moving parts and live wiring are present.
- Access rear compartment: Remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor and condenser fan.
- Check condenser fan: Look for debris (plastic, insulation, dust clumps) hitting the fan blade. Remove any obstructions. Spin the blade by hand to ensure it moves freely.
- Secure tubing: Gently move any copper or aluminum tubes that are touching each other or the cabinet and causing vibration. Use foam sleeves or clips to separate and cushion them.
- Inspect compressor mounts: Ensure the compressor mounting bolts or rubber grommets are intact. Replace damaged compressor mounting grommets if the compressor is rattling excessively.
- Compressor noise: A loud internal buzzing or knocking from the compressor itself often indicates internal wear. While the unit may still cool, eventual compressor replacement by a technician may be required.
