Possible Causes
High temperature condition, Door left open, Failed temperature sensor, Control board misinterpretation of sensor data
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Basic checks are safe with power on. Unplug the unit before removing panels or accessing wiring.
Steps to address AL:
- Identify alarm type: Check if the display is flashing a temperature, HI, or DOOR along with AL. This indicates whether the alarm is for temperature or door.
- Check door and gasket: Ensure the door is fully closed and the gasket is sealing all around. Clean gasket surfaces and remove any obstructions.
- Check interior temperature: Use a thermometer to verify actual freezer temperature. If above 10°F, treat as a high temperature alarm and follow high-temp troubleshooting (fan, compressor, frost buildup).
- Silence alarm: Use the alarm reset button to stop beeping while you troubleshoot.
- Inspect sensors: If the alarm persists with normal temperature and a closed door, test the cabinet thermistor and door switch as described in their respective procedures.
Note: Persistent false alarms with good sensors and door switch usually indicate a failing main control board, which should be replaced by a professional.
