Possible Causes
Door not fully closing, Warped or damaged door gasket, Failed door switch, Misaligned door or hinges
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Most checks can be done with power on, but unplug the freezer before removing the door switch or working with wiring.
Steps to address DOOR alarm:
- Check for obstructions: Inspect shelves and baskets to ensure no items are preventing the door from closing fully. Rearrange contents as needed.
- Inspect gasket: Look for tears, gaps, or hardened sections of the GE freezer door gasket. Close the door on a sheet of paper at several points; if the paper pulls out easily, the seal is weak.
- Adjust leveling: Use a level to ensure the freezer is slightly tilted back so the door closes by itself. Adjust front leveling legs as needed.
- Test door switch: Locate the door switch (usually in the front frame area). With the door open, press the switch plunger; the interior light should turn off and the alarm should stop after a short delay. If nothing changes, the switch may be faulty.
- Replace door switch: Unplug the freezer, pry the switch out gently, disconnect the wires, and install a new GE door switch. Reconnect wires and snap the switch back into place.
- Re-test: Close the door and confirm that the DOOR alarm no longer triggers when the door is properly shut.
Note: If the alarm persists despite a good switch and gasket, the main control board input circuit may be defective and require professional service.
