Possible Causes

Cabinet thermistor out of calibration, Stuck relay on main control board, User settings accidentally set to coldest, Failed damper or air baffle (on combo units)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Adjustments to controls are safe with power on, but unplug the unit before accessing internal wiring or sensors.

Steps to address LO:

  • Check setpoint: Verify the temperature setting on the control panel. Set to a typical freezer setting (around 0°F / -18°C) instead of the coldest option.
  • Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug back in to clear any control glitches.
  • Verify actual temperature: Place an appliance thermometer in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. Compare the reading to the display. If the display shows LO but the actual temperature is normal, the thermistor or control may be misreading.
  • Inspect cabinet thermistor: Unplug the unit, access the interior rear or side panel where the cabinet thermistor is located, and check for secure mounting and intact wiring.
  • Test thermistor: Disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the spec chart. Replace the GE cabinet thermistor if readings are out of range.
  • Monitor operation: After replacing the sensor or resetting the control, monitor temperature and display. If the compressor runs excessively and temperature remains too low, the main control board may have a stuck relay and should be replaced.

When to seek service: If LO persists with correct sensors and settings, a control board fault is likely and should be handled by a technician.
