Possible Causes
Failed display board, Loose UI harness, LED backlight failure, Control board not supplying display voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing the control panel or display assembly.
Steps to restore display:
- Check for backlight: In a dark room, look closely at the display for faint numbers. If present, the backlight may be out.
- Access UI board: Remove screws securing the control panel and gently pull it forward. Inspect the ribbon cable or harness for secure connections.
- Replace display board: If connections are good and the display remains blank, install a new GE user interface/display board compatible with your model.
- Control board check: If a new UI does not restore the display, the main control board may not be powering the UI and will need replacement.
Note: The freezer can often continue to cool with a failed display, but you will not be able to adjust settings accurately.
