Possible Causes

Refrigerant lines hitting cabinet, Loose compressor mounting, Loose internal panels or fan housing, Ice buildup contacting fan blade

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before adjusting tubing or tightening hardware.

Steps to eliminate banging:

  • Check leveling: Ensure the freezer is level front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust leveling legs to stabilize the cabinet.
  • Inspect rear compartment: Remove the rear access panel and look for copper lines or wiring harnesses that may be striking the cabinet when the compressor runs. Gently reposition and secure with foam or zip ties.
  • Check compressor mounts: Verify that the compressor mounting bolts or rubber grommets are intact and snug. Replace worn grommets if the compressor is excessively loose.
  • Inspect evaporator fan area: Inside the freezer, remove the rear interior panel and check for ice buildup around the evaporator fan blade. Clear ice and ensure the fan housing is firmly attached.

Note: Some popping or cracking noises from expansion and contraction of plastic parts are normal, but repeated loud bangs should be investigated.
