Possible Causes

Defective freezer NTC sensor, Broken or oxidized NTC wiring harness, Loose connector on main control board, Failed main PCB input circuit for NTC

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer from the mains before removing any panels or touching wiring. Use insulated tools and avoid working on live circuits.

  • Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 clears temporarily but returns, continue with checks.
  • Locate the freezer NTC: On most Gorenje freezers, the freezer temperature sensor is clipped to the evaporator or mounted behind an interior wall panel in the freezer compartment. Remove the inner plastic cover carefully to access it.
  • Inspect wiring and connector: Check the NTC sensor leads for cuts, pinches, or corrosion. Ensure the plug is firmly seated on the sensor and on the main control board (usually in the top or rear electronics compartment).
  • Measure sensor resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the NTC and measure its resistance using a multimeter. At around 25°C, most Gorenje NTCs read roughly 4–10 kΩ (exact value depends on model). If the reading is open (infinite) or shorted (near 0 Ω), the sensor is faulty.
  • Check continuity of harness: If the sensor tests OK, test continuity from the sensor connector to the main PCB connector. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Replace faulty parts: If the NTC is out of spec, replace the freezer temperature sensor (NTC). If wiring and sensor are good but E1 persists, the main control board’s sensor input may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
