Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Always disconnect the appliance from the mains before removing covers or handling wiring. Sharp metal edges near the evaporator can cause injury—wear cut-resistant gloves.
- Access the evaporator area: Empty the freezer drawers/shelves. Remove the rear inner panel of the freezer to expose the evaporator coil. If iced over, allow ice to melt (use towels; do not use sharp tools or heat guns).
- Locate the evaporator NTC: It is usually clipped or strapped to the evaporator tubing or embedded in a small plastic housing attached to the coil.
- Check mounting and condition: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface. A loose sensor can cause incorrect readings. Inspect the cable for cracks, cuts, or signs of moisture ingress.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the freezer NTC spec (often similar to the compartment sensor). If reading is open or shorted, replace the sensor.
- Inspect wiring to PCB: Trace the harness to the control board (top or rear). Check for pinched or broken wires, especially where they pass through cabinet walls. Repair or replace as needed.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing the sensor or repairing wiring, reassemble panels, restore power, and monitor if E2 clears and defrost cycles normalize.
