Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the fan. Moving fan blades and sharp metal edges can cause injury.

  • Listen for fan operation: With the door switch held closed (when powered) you should normally hear the evaporator fan running. If E6 is displayed and the fan is silent, proceed with inspection (after unplugging).
  • Access the fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
  • Check for ice blockage: Look for heavy ice around the fan shroud or blades. If present, fully defrost the area and ensure the fan can spin freely by hand.
  • Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. For DC fans, also check for correct supply voltage at the connector when powered (this should be done only if you are trained and can work safely with live circuits).
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the fan to the PCB for damage or loose connectors.
  • Replace components: If the motor is defective, replace the evaporator fan motor. If the motor and wiring are good but the fan never receives power, the main PCB fan driver may be faulty and require replacement.
