Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the fan or evaporator area.

Step-by-step checks:

• 1. Listen for fan operation: With the door switch held closed (for models with a switch) and the unit powered, you should normally hear the evaporator fan running. If E6 is displayed and the fan is silent, suspect a fan fault. Unplug before further work.
• 2. Access fan assembly: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and fan shroud.
• 3. Check for ice blockage: Inspect the fan blades and shroud for ice buildup. If iced over, fully defrost the area and check if the fan spins freely by hand.
• 4. Test fan motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Also check for short to ground.
• 5. Inspect wiring: Follow the fan harness back to the main PCB. Repair any damaged or pinched wires.
• 6. Power test (advanced): A technician can test whether the PCB is supplying correct voltage to the fan during operation. If no voltage is present and wiring is intact, the PCB may be faulty.

When to call a technician: If the fan motor tests good but does not receive power, or if you are not comfortable with electrical testing, contact a Gram service technician.
