Possible Causes

Defective magnetic door reed switch, Broken wiring to door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Faulty main control PCB input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any trim or control covers.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Check door closure: Ensure the door or lid closes fully and the gasket is not obstructed. A partially open door can mimic a switch fault.
  • 2. Locate door switch: On upright Gram freezers, the door switch is usually in the cabinet frame near the top; on chest freezers, it may be in the hinge area or integrated into the control panel.
  • 3. Inspect switch and magnet: Check for physical damage to the switch body. Verify that the door magnet (if used) is present and aligned with the switch location.
  • 4. Test switch continuity: Remove the switch from the cabinet and test with a multimeter while actuating it. It should open and close reliably. Replace if intermittent or stuck.
  • 5. Check wiring to PCB: Inspect the harness from the switch to the control PCB for breaks or loose connectors.
  • 6. PCB input: If the switch and wiring are good but E7 persists, the PCB input circuit may be faulty and require replacement.

When to call a technician: If PCB replacement is needed or if the switch is integrated into a complex control module, contact a Gram service center.
