Possible Causes
Door left open or not sealing properly, Excessive warm food recently loaded, Evaporator fan not running, Condenser coils clogged with dust
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This is usually not an electrical shock hazard, but avoid using sharp tools on ice and do not puncture any sealed system tubing.
- Check the door seal: Inspect the freezer door gasket all around. Look for gaps, tears, or areas where the gasket is not touching the cabinet. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and dry. Ensure no food packages are blocking the door from closing fully.
- Verify door closure: Close the door and check that it closes smoothly and the interior light turns off. If the door is misaligned, adjust the front leveling feet so the unit leans slightly back, helping the door self-close.
- Reduce warm load: If you recently loaded a large quantity of unfrozen food, remove some items or spread them out. Allow 12–24 hours for temperature to stabilize.
- Check airflow inside: Make sure vents at the back and sides of the freezer are not blocked by food packages. Good airflow is critical for Hotpoint-Ariston No Frost models.
- Clean condenser: Unplug the freezer. Pull it away from the wall and clean the condenser coils or condenser grid with a soft brush and vacuum. Restore power and monitor temperature for several hours.
- Check evaporator fan operation: With the door open, press and hold the door switch (if accessible). You should hear the evaporator fan running after the compressor starts. If the fan does not run, the fan motor or wiring may be faulty and should be tested and replaced by a technician.
