Freezer shows error A2 and the temperature is too low or fluctuating; some items may be over-frozen or frost-covered.

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing any panels or handling wiring. Risk of electric shock if working on live circuits.

• Power reset: Disconnect the freezer from mains for 5 minutes, then reconnect. Sometimes the control board will clear a transient sensor error.
• Inspect sensor location: Locate the temperature sensor (NTC) in the freezer compartment (often clipped to the evaporator cover or rear wall). Ensure it is not encased in heavy ice. If iced over, perform a full manual defrost: unplug the unit, leave doors open, and place towels to catch water. Do not use sharp tools or heat guns.
• Check wiring: With power unplugged, gently inspect the sensor wiring harness for visible damage, pinched sections, or loose connectors at the sensor and at the main control board (usually in the top or rear electronics compartment).
• Measure resistance (advanced DIY): Using a multimeter, measure the NTC resistance at room temperature and compare to Hotpoint-Ariston service values (commonly ~5–10 kΩ at 25°C). If readings are open, shorted, or far off spec, replace the sensor.
• Replace sensor if faulty: If the NTC is defective, order the correct Hotpoint-Ariston freezer NTC sensor by model number and replace it, routing the wiring as originally installed.
