Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice blocking fan blades, Broken fan wiring or connector, Fan driver circuit fault on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing internal panels or touching the fan assembly.
- Check for fan noise: With the door closed and unit running, listen for the evaporator fan. If silent, proceed with inspection.
- Access fan: Remove drawers and the rear internal panel to expose the fan. Look for ice buildup around the fan housing.
- Clear ice: If ice is blocking the fan, perform a full manual defrost. Do not force the fan blades.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan blades by hand (with power off). If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
- Check wiring: Inspect the fan connector and wiring harness for damage. Reseat the connector.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor does not run after defrosting and wiring checks, replace the evaporator fan motor with the correct Hotpoint-Ariston part.
