Freezer is too cold; ice cream is rock hard and items show freezer burn even at moderate settings.

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing controls or sensors.

• Check settings: Verify the temperature is not set to the coldest level. Adjust to the recommended setting and wait 24 hours.
• Inspect sensor/thermostat: On electronic models, locate the NTC sensor and check for damage. On mechanical models, inspect the thermostat knob and capillary tube for kinks or damage.
• Test sensor: If you have a multimeter and service data, test the NTC resistance. Replace if readings indicate a short.
• Replace thermostat (mechanical models): If turning the knob has no effect, replace the thermostat with the correct Hotpoint-Ariston part.
• Control board issue: If the compressor never cycles off, the relay may be stuck. This requires main control board replacement by a qualified person.
