Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Cracked drain tray above compressor, Excessive frost melt due to door left open

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing internal panels. Use towels to absorb water; floors may be slippery.

  • Locate defrost drain: Inside the freezer, remove drawers and the rear panel to find the drain hole at the bottom of the evaporator area.
  • Clear blockage: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or syringe to flush the drain hole until water flows freely to the drain pan underneath.
  • Check external drain tube: At the back, inspect the rubber drain tube leading to the pan. Clear any blockage and ensure it is properly seated.
  • Inspect drain pan: Verify the plastic drain tray above the compressor is not cracked or overflowing. Replace if damaged.
  • Prevent recurrence: Avoid leaving the door open for long periods and ensure the gasket seals well to reduce excess frost and defrost water.
