Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing rear components. Use caution around line voltage.
Basic checks:
- Verify the outlet has power by plugging in another device.
- Confirm the temperature control is not set to OFF or the warmest setting.
- Listen for any humming or clicking from the compressor area when the unit is plugged in.
Inspect compressor start components:
- Remove the rear access panel to expose the compressor and start relay.
- Check for burnt or melted relay housing or wiring.
- Test and replace the start relay and overload protector with Igloo-compatible parts if they show signs of failure or test open.
Check control/thermostat:
- On mechanical models, bypass the thermostat temporarily (for testing only) to see if the compressor starts. If it does, replace the thermostat.
- On electronic models, if the display is dead or unresponsive, the main control board may be faulty and require replacement.
When to call a technician: If the compressor receives proper voltage but does not start or is shorted to ground, the sealed system/compressor must be replaced by a certified technician.
