Possible Causes
Defrost heater not working, Defrost thermostat stuck open, Defrost timer or control board not initiating defrost, Door gasket leaking warm moist air
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before defrosting or testing components.
Manual defrost:
- Remove food to a cooler.
- Leave the door open and allow all ice to melt. Use towels to absorb water; do not chip ice with sharp tools.
Inspect defrost components:
- Access the evaporator and test the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity as described in the E4 entry.
- Replace any failed components with Igloo-compatible parts.
Door gasket:
- Inspect and replace a damaged gasket to reduce moisture infiltration.
Control board:
- If heater and thermostat are good but frost returns quickly, the control board may not be initiating defrost and may need replacement.
