Ignis freezer shows AL04 and may stop cooling; compressor does not start or starts briefly then stops.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Work only if you are comfortable around mains voltage components. Do not attempt sealed system repairs yourself.
- Listen for compressor behavior: When powered, does the compressor click on and off quickly, or stay silent? Repeated clicking often points to a start relay or overload issue.
- Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor and electrical box.
- Inspect start device: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the PTC start relay and overload protector for burn marks, rattling pieces, or melted plastic.
- Test and replace: If the relay rattles when shaken or shows visible damage, replace it with the correct Ignis-compatible start device kit. Ensure tight connections on the compressor pins.
- Check wiring and board relay: Inspect wires from the control board to the compressor for burns or loose connectors. If the compressor never receives power (no voltage at terminals when it should run), the control board relay may be faulty.
If a new start device does not resolve AL04 and the compressor draws very high current or hums loudly without starting, the compressor itself may be seized and requires professional replacement.
