Possible Causes
Defective thermostat contacts welded closed, Faulty temperature sensor reading too warm, Control board not cycling compressor off
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the control housing.
- Check temperature setting: Adjust the thermostat or digital setpoint to a warmer setting and wait several hours.
- Test mechanical thermostat: Turn the knob from cold to warm; you should hear a click as it turns off. If no click and compressor never stops, replace the thermostat.
- Test sensor on electronic models: Measure the NTC sensor resistance and compare to spec. Replace if it reads too warm for actual temperature.
If the compressor still never cycles off, the control board relay may be stuck and should be replaced by a technician.
