How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer from power before removing panels or handling wiring. Use insulated tools and avoid working on a wet floor.

Steps to check and address E1:

  • Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug back in to see if E1 clears. If it returns, continue.
  • Locate the cabinet sensor: On most Midea freezers, the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC) is clipped to the evaporator cover or mounted on the liner wall behind a small plastic cover inside the freezer.
  • Inspect wiring: Remove the inner cover (if present). Check the sensor wires for cuts, pinches, or signs of rodent damage. Ensure the connector is fully seated.
  • Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor from the harness. Using a multimeter set to resistance (kΩ), measure across the sensor leads. At room temperature (around 25°C / 77°F), most Midea NTCs read roughly 5–10 kΩ. A reading of 0 Ω (short) or OL (open) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace if faulty: If the sensor is out of spec, replace it with a compatible Midea cabinet NTC sensor. Route the new sensor wiring along the original path and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges.
  • Check the control board: If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, inspect the main control board (usually behind a rear or top access panel) for burnt spots or corroded pins. Reseat the sensor connector. If damage is visible or E1 persists, the board may need replacement.
