Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the control compartment or wiring. Avoid pulling on wires directly.
Steps to troubleshoot E3:
- Locate ambient sensor: On many Midea freezers, the ambient sensor is near the front grille, control panel, or air intake, often behind a small vented cover.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the cover and check the sensor body and wires for damage or discoloration. Ensure the connector is firmly attached.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values (around 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). If the reading is extremely high (open) or near zero (short), the sensor is defective.
- Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Midea ambient NTC sensor, routing the wires along the original path. Secure with clips or tape to prevent chafing.
- Check control board connection: If the sensor tests good, access the main control board (usually at the rear). Reseat the ambient sensor connector and inspect for corrosion or burnt traces.
When to seek service: If E3 remains after sensor replacement and connector checks, the main control board likely needs replacement and should be handled by a professional.
