Door Switch / Door Sensor Error
Freezer shows E9; interior light or door alarm may behave erratically
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Stuck or failed mechanical door switch, Faulty magnetic reed sensor, Misaligned door magnet, Broken wiring to door switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing switch housings or panels.
Steps to troubleshoot E9:
- Check door operation: Open and close the door while observing the interior light and any door-open icon. If the light stays on with the door closed, the switch/sensor may be stuck.
- Locate the switch/sensor: On many Midea freezers, the door switch is a plunger-style switch in the liner or a magnetic sensor near the top frame.
- Inspect and clean: For plunger switches, press the plunger repeatedly to see if it sticks. Clean around it with a damp cloth to remove debris. For magnetic sensors, ensure the door magnet is present and aligned.
- Test continuity: Remove the switch from the liner (usually snaps out). With a multimeter, check continuity while pressing and releasing the switch. Replace if readings do not change.
- Replace faulty switch/sensor: Install a new Midea door switch or magnetic sensor. Reconnect wiring and secure in place.
Note: If the switch tests good but E9 persists, the main control board input circuit may be faulty.
