Possible Causes
Worn fan motor bearings, Ice buildup around fan blades, Fan blade rubbing on housing, Loose fan mounting screws
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the fan. Wear gloves to avoid cuts from metal edges.
Steps:
- Access fan: Remove baskets and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Check for ice: Look for ice around the fan. If present, defrost the unit fully and check defrost system operation (see defrost failure entry).
- Inspect fan blade: Spin the blade by hand. It should rotate freely without scraping. Adjust or reseat the blade if it rubs the shroud.
- Check motor play: Wiggle the fan shaft; excessive play or grinding indicates worn bearings.
- Replace motor: Install a new Midea evaporator fan motor if noisy or stiff. Transfer the fan blade if necessary and secure all screws.
