Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain hole with ice or debris, Frozen drain tube, Cracked or misaligned drain pan, Excessive frost due to door gasket leak

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer and mop up any standing water to prevent slipping.

Steps:

  • Locate drain: Inside the freezer, remove the rear inner panel to access the evaporator. At the bottom of the evaporator tray, locate the drain hole.
  • Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan below.
  • Check drain tube: From the rear, remove the lower panel and inspect the drain tube leading to the pan. Clear any blockages with flexible wire or pipe cleaner.
  • Inspect drain pan: Ensure the drain pan is properly positioned on the compressor base and not cracked.
  • Check door gasket: A poor seal can cause excess frost and defrost water. Replace the Midea door gasket if it is torn or warped.
