Possible Causes

Failing compressor, Loose compressor mounting grommets, Faulty PTC start relay clicking repeatedly, Refrigerant lines vibrating against cabinet

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before touching the compressor or tubing.

Steps:

  • Identify noise source: Listen carefully around the compressor area and inside the cabinet to locate where the noise is loudest.
  • Check mounting: Inspect the rubber grommets under the compressor. Replace if cracked or missing, and ensure mounting bolts are snug but not overtightened.
  • Inspect start relay: If you hear repeated clicking and the compressor does not stay running, follow E8 steps to inspect and replace the PTC start relay/overload.
  • Secure tubing: Look for copper lines touching each other or the cabinet. Gently bend them away and add foam or rubber spacers to prevent vibration.

Note: A loud, metallic knocking from the compressor often indicates internal failure and requires compressor replacement by a technician.
