Possible Causes
Open defrost heater, Failed defrost thermostat or thermal fuse, Defective defrost sensor, Faulty defrost control on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and place towels around the base to catch meltwater.
Immediate action:
- Manual defrost: Turn off and unplug the freezer. Leave doors open until all ice melts (this may take several hours). Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Restart and observe: After defrosting, restart the unit. If heavy frost returns within a few days, the automatic defrost system is not working.
- Component testing: Follow E4 and E5 procedures to test the defrost sensor, heater, and thermostat. Replace any failed Midea defrost components.
- Control board: If all defrost components test good, the main control board may not be initiating defrost and will need replacement.
