Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains before removing any panels or boards.
- Access control boards: On upright Montpellier freezers, the display PCB is in the top fascia and the main PCB is usually behind the rear lower panel. Remove panels carefully.
- Inspect harness: Locate the multi-core cable linking the display to the main board. Check for pinched, cut, or chewed (rodent) sections. Repair or replace damaged harnesses.
- Clean and reseat connectors: Unplug the harness at both boards. Inspect pins for corrosion or burning. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and reconnect firmly.
- Check for moisture: Look for signs of condensation or water ingress around the display area. Dry thoroughly and improve door seal if moisture is present.
- Visual PCB inspection: Examine both boards for burnt components, cracked solder joints, or swollen capacitors. Minor dry joints can sometimes be re-soldered by an experienced electronics technician.
If E6 persists after harness and connector checks, either the display PCB or main control PCB is defective. Replacement of control boards should be carried out by a qualified technician to avoid damage or incorrect configuration.
