Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power. Moving fan blades and sharp metal edges can cause injury.

  • Access fan: Remove baskets and the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly on no-frost Montpellier freezers.
  • Check for ice blockage: Look for ice build-up around the fan shroud. If present, defrost the area using bowls of hot water and towels. Do not chip ice with tools.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan blades by hand. They should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor connector and wiring back to the harness. Repair any damaged wires and ensure a tight connection.
  • Test fan voltage: With the unit briefly powered and calling for cooling (door switch held closed), measure voltage at the fan connector (use caution, live voltage). If correct voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan motor.
  • Replace fan motor: Remove mounting screws, swap in a Montpellier-compatible evaporator fan motor, and reassemble the shroud and rear panel.

If no voltage is present at the fan when it should be running, the main control board or wiring harness may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a professional.
