Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer. Water from melting ice can create slip and shock hazards; use towels and containers.
- Manual defrost: Remove food to a cool box. Open the door and place towels and bowls of hot water inside to melt ice. Do not use knives or heat guns.
- Access evaporator: Remove the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator, heater, and defrost components.
- Test defrost heater: Disconnect heater leads and measure resistance. Replace if open circuit.
- Check defrost thermostat/fuse: Test for continuity at freezer temperature. Replace if open.
- Inspect defrost sensor: Test NTC resistance and replace if faulty.
If all defrost components test good, the main control board may not be initiating defrost cycles and should be checked or replaced by a professional.
