Possible Causes
Blocked defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Misaligned drain funnel into drip tray, Excessive door openings causing condensation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer. Water on the floor can cause slips; mop up spills promptly.
- Locate drain: On no-frost Montpellier freezers, the defrost drain is usually at the bottom of the evaporator housing behind the inner rear panel.
- Clear drain hole: Use a soft plastic probe or pipe cleaner to gently clear debris from the drain hole. Do not use metal tools.
- Flush with warm water: Using a turkey baster or syringe, flush warm (not boiling) water through the drain until it flows freely into the rear drip tray.
- Check rear drip tray: At the back, ensure the drain tube terminates correctly into the drip tray above the compressor and that the tray is not cracked or overflowing.
If the drain repeatedly freezes, a technician may need to fit a drain heater or check defrost cycle operation.
